By the time our pupils leave in Year 6, we want them to have developed the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills they need in order to become healthier, more independent and more responsible members of society.  We encourage our children to play a positive role in contributing to the life of our school and the wider community.  In doing so, we help to develop their sense of self-worth.  We teach them how society is governed and ensure that our children have the opportunity to experience the process of democracy through participation in School Council.  We aim to make pupils aware of their rights and responsibilities. They learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse and multi-cultural society.  At St. Columba’s, we strive to develop our children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and this is fundamental to our beliefs as a Catholic school.

By the time our pupils leave St Columba's, we want them to:

• Be aware of safety issues and to know how to stay safe 

• Understand what makes a good relationship with others

• Have respect for others

• Learn how to be thoughtful and responsible members of their community and their school

• Become active members of a democratic society
