My name is Zoe Sharman, and my son currently attends St Columba’s Catholic Primary School.
Upon leaving school, I attended college and achieved NVQ level 2 in childcare and Education. I obtained a position at a day nursery and progressed from Nursery Nurse to Room Leader, my duration in this field lasted for 8 years. My main responsibilities were to help nurture and teach the children in my care, which I found extremely fulfilling. However, I felt that I wanted to expand my skill set and sort a career in customer services. I progressed from a customer services advisor to team manager, my duration in this field lasted 3 years. This role developed my problem solving; IT; and conflict resolution skills, which I feel would be a great asset to the board of governors. I then went on to be a Group Reservations Agent and Loyalty Specialist at a large hotel chain. This exposed me to managing complex worldwide bookings, from enquiry through to departure. This meant a high level of customer service and accuracy to both detail and financial aspects.
However, when my son was born I realised how much I missed working with children. Even though I enjoyed my career at the time, working with children brought me a level of joy and fulfilment I could not obtain in the admin roles. Therefore, I decided it was time to go back into the education sector.
I now work part time as an Administration Manager at a private day nursery. I love this job because no two days are the same. One day I can be working in the office performing regulatory duties, future planning and financial tasks such as invoicing and payroll. To the next day where I can be helping to care for the children, ensuring their wellbeing needs are met. This means I am able to enjoy both the admin aspects and the fulfilment of working with children in the same position.
By being a Parent Governor I want to try and make a difference to our children and give something back to our community. I believe that my background and experience will help support St Columba’s Catholic Primary School in delivering the best possible outcomes for our children. I also feel that my excellent knowledge of safeguarding will help to protect our children’s health and wellbeing.
